Over 24 Lakh Names Likely to Be Removed from Voter List in Rajasthan: Major Verification Drive Underway

More than 24 lakh voters in Rajasthan may face deletion from the electoral rolls as the state undergoes a large-scale verification under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. The exercise, initiated on November 4 and continuing till December 4, is being conducted under the directives of the Election Commission of India.

According to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Naveen Mahajan, every voter’s record is being digitally matched with the 2002 SIR voter list. The verification aims to check whether the names of voters’ parents existed in the 2002 database. If a voter fails this match, their name may be excluded from the upcoming draft roll.

Digital Matching with 2002 Electoral Records

Mahajan explained that following digitization, the department is verifying every voter entry with the 2002 SIR list. Voters whose details do not match will receive formal notices once the draft roll is published on December 9. They will then be required to submit necessary documents to prove their eligibility. Failure to do so will result in deletion of their names from the voter list.

SIR Across 12 States and UTs

This verification exercise began after the Bihar elections and is currently underway in 12 states and Union Territories, including Rajasthan.
The first draft electoral roll will be released on December 4. Voters and political parties will then have one month to file claims and objections. After verification, the final electoral roll will be issued on February 7, 2026.

5.46 Crore Voters in Rajasthan

Rajasthan has approximately 5.46 crore registered voters. As part of the house-to-house survey, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) distributed enumeration forms (EFs) and collected over 4.59 crore of them, which have now been digitized and uploaded to the ECINet portal.

As of November 28, data from 4,34,77,808 voters successfully matched with the 2002 records. These voters will not be required to submit any additional documents.

However, 24,41,673 voter records did not match. Officials warn that this number may increase as digitization continues till December 4.

Jaipur Tops in Unmatched Voters

District-wise data shows the highest number of unmatched records in:

• Jaipur: 1,95,489
• Jodhpur: 1,47,016
• Bhilwara: 1,29,574
• Sikar: 1,15,713
• Bikaner: 1,11,744
• Udaipur: 1,03,286

How the Mapping Process Works

Under SIR, 52,222 BLOs are conducting door-to-door verification. Voters fill details such as name, address, ward, and EPIC number in the enumeration form. These are uploaded via a mobile app to a digital platform where the system automatically matches the information with the 2002 SIR roll.

For voters who migrated from other states, BLOs download the 2002–2005 SIR voter lists of those respective states for cross-verification.
Successful matching exempts voters from submitting 13 essential documents.
Unmatched voters must provide proof of eligibility during the claims and objections period to avoid deletion.

Voters Need Not Panic

Authorities have emphasized that the process aims to ensure accuracy, prevent duplication, and maintain a clean and updated voter list.
Voters whose names are unmatched simply need to submit the required documents on time to retain their voting rights.
