Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp political attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing the state government of creating a situation akin to “maha jungle raj” and attempting to protect infiltrators at the cost of Bengal’s development and citizens’ rights.
PM Modi was scheduled to address a massive rally at Ranaghat in Nadia district during his Bengal visit. However, due to adverse weather and dense fog, his helicopter could not land at the venue. The Prime Minister therefore addressed the gathering virtually via mobile phone, drawing loud applause from party supporters.
“Oppose Modi, But Don’t Harm Bengal”
In his address, PM Modi said the TMC was free to oppose him politically but should not obstruct the progress of West Bengal.
“You may oppose Modi with full force, repeatedly. I have no objection. But why block Bengal’s development? Why deprive the people of their rights? Why break their dreams?” he said.
Referring to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, during which 58 lakh names were deleted, the Prime Minister alleged that the TMC was opposing the process only to safeguard infiltrators.
Allegations Against Mamata Banerjee Government
PM Modi directly accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of trying to protect those who, according to him, are “determined to take over Bengal.”
“The TMC is making every possible effort to shield infiltrators. This is why it is opposing SIR. Such politics is dangerous for the future of Bengal,” he said.
He further alleged that the Bengal government was deeply involved in corruption, stating that it was “busy only with cuts and commissions,” instead of focusing on governance and public welfare.
“Bihar Has Shown the Way, Now It’s Bengal’s Turn”
Highlighting the recent landslide victory of the BJP-led NDA in Bihar, PM Modi said the country wants fast-paced development.
“Ganga flows from Bihar to Bengal. Bihar has given an opportunity for development. Now it is Bengal’s turn,” he said, appealing to the people of West Bengal to give the BJP a chance.
Tribute to Bengal’s Cultural Legacy
The Prime Minister also invoked Bengal’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage, noting that Nadia is the sacred land where Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was born and that Bengal is the land that gave the nation the immortal slogan ‘Vande Mataram’.
Condolences to BJP Workers
At the beginning of his speech, PM Modi apologised for not being physically present due to weather conditions. He also expressed deep sorrow over reports that some BJP workers met with a rail accident while travelling to the rally, resulting in fatalities and injuries.
“I offer my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured. In this difficult hour, we stand firmly with the affected families,” he said.
