From a 14-Kilometre Bicycle Ride to IPL Stardom: The Inspiring Journey of Prashant Veer

Amethi:
True success is often born out of struggle, and the life of young cricketer Prashant Veer stands as a shining example of this belief. Hailing from a modest background in Amethi district, Prashant has scripted an extraordinary success story by earning a ₹14.2 crore contract in the IPL mini-auction, where he was picked up by Chennai Super Kings (CSK). With this, he has become one of the most expensive uncapped players in IPL history, sharing the record with Agra’s Kartik Sharma.

Prashant’s rise is not just about money or fame—it is a story of determination, discipline, and unshakeable resolve. For years, he cycled nearly 14 kilometres every day from his village Gunjipur to the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Stadium to attend practice sessions, regardless of weather conditions. His single-minded dream was simple yet powerful: to see himself playing cricket on television one day.

Celebration in Gunjipur

Following the IPL auction, celebrations erupted in Gunjipur village under Sangrampur police station area. Locals, friends, and well-wishers gathered at Prashant’s home to congratulate his family. For the villagers, Prashant’s success is a matter of pride—a symbol of how talent from rural India can shine on the global stage.

Friends who once shared the pitch with him are overwhelmed with emotion. “We always knew he would make it,” says Sachin, one of his close teammates. “He was aggressive, confident, and fearless from the very beginning.”

Discipline, Coaching, and Hard Work

Prashant trained at Bhimrao Ambedkar Stadium during the 2017–18 batch, where his talent was refined under the guidance of Coach Galib Sir. Former sports officer Shamim Ahmed describes him as an exceptionally disciplined and gifted player. “His hard work, combined with quality coaching, shaped him into the cricketer he is today,” Ahmed said.

Team captain Akbar recalls Prashant’s dedication vividly. “He never missed practice. He came on a bicycle every single day. His commitment was extraordinary.”

A Key Role for CSK

A left-arm spin all-rounder, Prashant Veer is also known for his aggressive batting. With star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja moving to Rajasthan Royals, Prashant is expected to play a crucial role in CSK’s squad in IPL 2026. His all-round abilities make him a valuable asset for the team.

Recognition at the Highest Level

Prashant’s achievement has drawn attention from political and social leaders as well. Former Union Minister and ex-MP Smriti Irani personally spoke to his father, Ramendra Tripathi, congratulating the family. She praised Prashant’s journey and acknowledged that sports initiatives in the region have helped nurture rural talent. She also expressed her desire to meet the family during her next visit to Amethi.

A Story That Inspires a Generation

Prashant Veer’s journey—from cycling miles for practice to becoming an IPL star worth ₹14.2 crore—is more than a sports story. It is a powerful reminder that dreams backed by relentless hard work can overcome poverty, distance, and limitations. For thousands of young athletes across rural India, Prashant’s life is now a beacon of hope and inspiration.
