Delhi: Library for Girls at Bhagat Singh Park Remains Shut for Months — Locals Demand Security Deployment

New Delhi: The library built exclusively for girls at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park in Karala village, Delhi, has remained closed for several months. Once a quiet and safe study space for local students, it is now deserted — allegedly due to the presence of antisocial elements occupying the upper floors of the building. Concerned residents are now demanding the deployment of a security guard and police assistance to restore safety and reopen the facility.

Library Locked, Students Missing

According to residents, the library was established with the support of the Delhi government and an NGO. Initially, it was well-equipped with books, study tables, and a peaceful environment — attracting many young girls from nearby areas. However, over the past few months, certain individuals began using the upper floor of the building for suspicious activities.

Their frequent presence and behavior created an unsafe atmosphere, forcing students and their families to stop visiting. Gradually, attendance dropped, and the library was ultimately shut down.

Locals Demand Action and Security

Community member Ravindra Billu said he has written to the District Magistrate’s office, urging authorities to take immediate action to reopen the library. “This library was a great initiative for village girls. It must be revived. The administration should deploy a security guard and ensure that antisocial elements are kept out with the help of Delhi Police,” he said.

Residents believe that with proper security arrangements, the park library could once again serve as a vital study hub for young women in the area — promoting education, empowerment, and community development in a safe environment.
