Bengaluru witnessed a shocking incident that has left residents horrified. A five-year-old child playing badminton on the road was allegedly kicked by a young man, resulting in serious injuries. The incident, captured on CCTV, has triggered widespread anger on social media.
Incident Details
The incident took place in Old Post Office Road, Tyagarajanagar, South Bengaluru. The young boy, playing badminton with other children and his mother nearby, was suddenly attacked by a man who ran from behind and kicked him with force. The boy fell face-first onto the road, sustaining injuries to his eyebrow, arms, and legs. After kicking the child, the man calmly walked away.
Authorities later identified the accused as Ranjit, also known as Ranjan, a former gym trainer and local resident of Doddamavalli near Lalbagh. He had visited his uncle’s house in Tyagarajanagar at the time of the incident.
Police Action
The child’s mother immediately filed a complaint demanding justice. Initially registered as a non-cognizable report (NCR), the police, after preliminary investigation, obtained permission from the Second Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Court on 15 December to file a case under Section 115(2) of the Indian Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
Family Claims Mental Instability
According to senior officials, Ranjit is unmarried and, as per his family, mentally unstable, undergoing treatment with a psychiatrist. He has no prior criminal record and generally keeps to himself. Police are currently reviewing his medical history to determine further action.
CCTV Footage Shows Shocking Scene
The CCTV footage shows Ranjit stepping out of his home wearing a cap, spotting the boy with a shuttle, and running toward him to deliver a forceful kick on the child’s back. The boy falls instantly, landing on his face. His mother, witnessing the attack, shouts at a passing motorcyclist, thinking he might have hit her son, only to realize the assailant was the man in the white shirt.
The incident has sparked outrage online, with citizens demanding strict legal action against the accused.
