Even after an impressive IPL 2025 season, Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis was released by Punjab Kings. In a dramatic turn at the IPL 2026 auction, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured Inglis for a whopping ₹8.6 crore, despite reports that he may be available for only four matches due to his upcoming wedding.
Inglis’ IPL and International Impact
Inglis was a standout performer in IPL 2025, delivering explosive batting and playing a key role in helping Punjab Kings reach the final. Known for his striking ability against top bowlers—including Jasprit Bumrah—he boasts a strike rate close to 160 in T20s and has two international T20 centuries to his name.
Previously, Inglis had a base price of ₹2.6 crore, but this time the bidding saw fierce competition, including a strong push from Sunrisers Hyderabad. Ultimately, Lucknow Super Giants emerged victorious. Observers noted that Kavya Maran’s reactions during the auction suggested she was driving the price up rather than actively seeking to buy him.
Limited Availability
Inglis’ availability in IPL 2026 is limited due to his wedding, which is expected to restrict him to just four matches. Despite this, Lucknow Super Giants invested heavily, with Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran already part of the squad as wicketkeepers.
Career Highlights
At 30 years old, Inglis has played 162 T20 matches, scoring 3,853 runs including four centuries. In international T20s, he has amassed 911 runs, including a century against India. His explosive batting and experience make him a valuable, if short-term, addition to LSG’s lineup.
