For Indian cricket fans, today is a landmark moment as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to announce the squad for the T20 World Cup 2026. The tournament will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, starting on 7 February, with the final scheduled for 8 March.
Selectors’ Meeting Underway
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar, along with team captain Suryakumar Yadav, attended the BCCI headquarters for the squad finalization. The meeting, originally scheduled to start earlier, was slightly delayed as Yadav could not reach Mumbai from Ahmedabad on time. Secretary Devjit Saikia was also present alongside the selectors.
Preparation for New Challenges
To prepare for the T20 World Cup, India will face New Zealand in a five-match T20I series on 21, 23, 25, 28, and 31 January. The Indian squad for this series will also be announced today. India has been placed in Group A along with Namibia, Netherlands, Pakistan, and the United States.
A Stellar 2025 and a Look Ahead
The year 2025 has been remarkable for Team India in the T20 format, with several young players delivering standout performances. India also claimed the Asia Cup this year, showcasing their strength in the format. As defending champions of the 2024 T20 World Cup held in West Indies and the USA—where India defeated South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final—the team is aiming to lift its third T20 World Cup title.
Expectations from the Chief Selectors
Fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement from the chief selectors, hoping for a powerful and balanced squad that combines experienced campaigners with in-form young talent to take on the challenges of the T20 World Cup on home soil.
